Course Features

“Taiwan life and culture” is the main axis of How Tai Chinese Camp Taiwan. The courses will guide students to explore the core of culture in various periods of Taiwan and to experience the life style in modern Taiwan, such as language, diet, architecture and art. The curriculum planning is content-oriented. According to the CLIL approach, the course design is based on the 4Cs framework of CLIL, including “cognition, community, content, and communication”. The camp team constructs an abundant and diverse learning environment, provides authentic, multi-faceted courses, and designs interesting and varied teaching activities for students. During the three-week course, the teaching team will use the “content” to drive the learning of the language, so that the students will recognize the real Taiwan, and improve their Chinese knowledge and skills.

Cultural Theme Courses

Before the 17th century, the indigenous peoples have settled in Taiwan. At the beginning of the 17th century, as many people of Fujian and Guangdong crossed the Taiwan Strait, their original language, diet, customs and beliefs took root in Taiwan gradually. Through Qing Dynasty and the Japanese rule periods, the fusion of foreign culture and local culture has changed the life style of Taiwanese people and also created different cultural thinking.

Taiwanese have always developed greater tolerance of changes between tradition and innovation, and between conservative and modern, so that commonality and individuality are also developed.

Modern Taiwan is formed on the basis of historical background. “How Tai Chinese Camp Taiwan” will lead the students to recognize the cultural features in various periods of Taiwan following the four-hundred-year historical time axis with “Lecture and Experience” model. The students will understand the characteristics of each period, and experience them by doing or visiting. The main goal is that the students will understand more about the reasons why modern Taiwan has a variety of appearances, and that they will be fond of the abundant and diverse society, and also love the culture of modern Taiwan.
